Why mock exams matter more than revision notes

The CeMAP exam tests recall under timed pressure — not recognition, not comprehension. Reading notes prepares you for recognition. Mock exams prepare you for recall. They're a different cognitive skill, and the only way to train it is to practise it.

Candidates who sit their first full mock at least 4 weeks before their exam consistently outperform those who mock within the final week. The reason is simple: early mocks reveal gaps you can actually do something about.

How to get the most from mock exams

What score do you need to pass?

The official pass mark for each CeMAP unit is 70% — depending on the unit that's 28/40 (FRE1, FRE2, MRT2), 35/50 (MRT1) or 42/60 (ASEW/ASSC). On mock practice, aim for 75%+ consistently before booking the real exam. See also: the full CeMAP exam format guide and our practice question bank.

Frequently asked questions

Are cemap·coach mock exams the same format as the real CeMAP exam?

Yes — mocks match the real question counts and structure per unit, with the same 70% pass mark.

How many mock exams are available?

Multiple mock variants exist per unit, each weighted differently, so repeat sittings draw different questions rather than repeating the same paper.

Should I do a mock exam before or after revising?

Both — an early mock reveals weak topics, and a later mock (ideally the day before your exam) confirms you're ready.
